Join us at the Discovery Museum for a summer of adventure, education, and fun! There are camps for everyone, from preschool to high school! All programs are led by qualified professionals, with curriculum enhanced by our SVDM education team. The Discovery Museum is running a full summer of enriching fun from June 5-August 18. Extended hours are available for working families.

PRESCHOOL CAMPs:

Once Upon a Time Camp: Join Mr. Mark for a week of imagination, games, arts and crafts, science, and story time fun as we enter the magical world of Once Upon a Time. In the enchanted world of fairytales, you never know what will happen next! Open to 4-5 year old campers who are toilet independent. JUNE 4-8 and/or AUG. 13-17, 9 AM-12 PM

ELEMENTARY CAMPS

Art and Nature Camp I: Campers will gain an appreciation for the outdoors, particularly focusing on wetlands and animal adaptations, while working with artist and nature enthusiast Carol Jackson. Campers will create art using a variety of mediums to interpret their scientific explorations. Rising 1st-5th graders july 2-6, 1-4 PM (no camp July 4)

 

Camp Discovery: Have a blast with new friends in this half-day, thematically-based camp chock full of art, maker, and science activities. Experienced educators bring your camper a fantastic world of imagination, enrichment, and hands-on play. Rising K-4th graders July 16-20, 9AM-12PM; July 23-27, 1-4PM, and/or July 30-August 3, 1-4PM

 

gourd art camp: Use nature’s colors and patterns as inspiration for your very own eco-art! Led by members of the Apple Dapple Patch, campers will learn techniques for creating their very own one-of-a-kind gourd art pieces. Rising 2nd-6th graders

Happy Hands Puppet Camp (Beginner Level): Veteran puppet master Mike Faison teaches campers how to make puppets, how to develop creative stories, and how to bring those stories to life through the magic of puppetry! Rising 1st-5th graders july 9-13, 9AM-12PM

Jedi Training for Young Padawans: Calling novices in the force! Explore the science of being a Jedi, create your own planets, and even a droid. Discover the force within you through teamwork, confidence building exercises, and decision-making games.

Magic to Do with Jonathan Ford (Beginner Level): Beginning magicians learn the fundamentals of magic tricks in a fun and supportive environment, where skill sets are taught according to age and experience level. Camp culminates with a student-performed magic show! Rising 2nd-6th graders, june 25-29, 1-4 pm and/or July 23-27, 9am-12pm

Magic tree house camp: Go on a different adventure with Jack and Annie every day! Discover dinosaurs, take a trip back in time with George Washington, and so much more! Rising 2nd-5th graders, JUNE 25-29, 9AM-12PM and/or july 16-20, 1-4PM

 

discovery theatre Camp: Do you like to sing? Can you act? Do you enjoy designing, building, and painting things? Campers will collaborate to create, compose, and stage their own original show under the guidance of professional actors. Rising 1st-5th graders July 23-27, 9AM-12PM

 

Storyland Art Camp: Inspire a love of reading and art in your camper. Create fun and imaginative works of art based on favorite works of children’s literature. Students will experiment with a variety of mediums (clay, paints, oil pastels) to bring a new story to life each day.  Rising K-4th graders,

ADVANCED HOGWARTS ADVENTURE CAMP: Graduates of Hogwarts Adventure Camp will discover even more magic the second time around, including Quidditch training boot camp and an in-depth look at potions, herbology, arithmancy, muggle studies, and charms. Rising 4th-10th graders August 6-10, 1-4 PM

 

Advanced Jedi Training: This advanced level week continues your Jedi training with an in-depth exploration of the characters, science, and stories of the Star Wars universe and how they can shape our real lives. Enriching hands-on activities make exploring a galaxy far, far away even more fun! Rising 3rd-8th graders JULY 23-27, 9AM-12 PM

AMAZE YOUR FRIENDS Camp: Learn new skills to dazzle and amaze your friends with. Topics may include juggling, balloon animals, card tricks, joke telling, and DIY slime. Rising 3rd-8th graders July 2-6, 1-4PM (no camp July 4) and/or August 6-10, 9am-12pm

 Aviation ONE-DAY CAMP: Soar into aviation with regional aviation experts in this fast paced, single day camp adventure, located at the Winchester Regional Airport. Campers learn about different facets of aviation through hands-on stations. Must provide own transportation to and from the airport. Rising 5th-12th graders Saturday, jULY 14, 9AM-4PM COST: $25/single day

 

Camp half blood: Explore the magical worlds of Rick Riordan in this camp based on the popular Percy Jackson series. Learn Greek and Roman mythology, participate in quests, develop leadership skills, and learn the science behind the stories! Rising 3rd-9th graders june 18-22 and/or JULY 16-20, 9am-12PM

 

Chess Camp: Kings, Queens, Bishops, Knights -sounds like a royal time! No need to be an expert, this camp caters to new and seasoned chess players alike! Stimulate your grey matter by developing strategies, making friends, and having fun! Rising 3rd-9th graders June 25-29 or JULY 9-13, 9AM-12PM

Mural Painting: Murals and street art are growing in popularity around the world. Learn about the history of street art while refining artistic skills and creating an original collaborative painted mural that will be displayed as public art in Winchester! mythbusters camp: Calling creative minds to conduct experiments and break apart urban legends and myths. Led by Valley Makers Association, this camp caters to scientists, inventors, and makers alike. Rising 4th-9th graders, JUNE 4-8 and july 30-aug 3, 1-4PM

 

 

 

Not the Same Old Story Camp: Have you ever wanted to rewrite those corny stories for little kids? What would YOU write in the story instead? Let’s find out! Co-author and illustrate an inspired new classic that shows those adults what kids’ books really ought to be! Rising 5th-8th graders, June 25-29, 1-4 PM

 

Pokemon camp: Calling potential Pokemon masters to explore the world of Pokemon through hands-on activities, games, and challenges. Create and test your own Pokemon against the inventions of your fellow campers. Rising 3rd-8th graders, july 9-13, 1-4 PM

 

Robotics Camp: Explore Lego Mindstorms, Little Bits, and Hummingbird in this fun introduction to building, programming, and designing robots! This action- packed week is filled with challenging activities for all levels of robotics experience.  Rising 4th-8th graders:  july 9-13 or august 6-10, 1-4 PM

 

Superhero boot Camp: It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a superhero camper! Unleash your inner superhero and create your own story. Bring your superhero to life through graphic art, science experiments, games, drama, and, of course, superhero boot camp.  Rising 3rd-6th graders  JULY 9-13, 9 AM-12 PM

 

WIND ENERGY CHALLENGE camp: Faculty from James Madison University’s Wind Energy Center challenge campers to experiment, build, and discover ways we use electricity and harness the wind.  The week culminates with a competition where campers show off their wind turbine designs and compete to generate the most energy. Rising 4th-9th graders. june11-15, 9AM-4Pm, $225 Members/$250 Nonmembers

 

Young Filmmakers Camp:  Skyline Indie Film Fest fosters the talents and skills of young filmmakers in this week-long intensive mentored by professional filmmakers. Campers learn all aspects of film making, culminating in a Friday film screening! $350/week Rising 5th-12th graders June 25-29, 9AM-4PM
