Braun

Mary has become the museum’s next driving force to lead the museum into the future. Mary joins us from the tidewater Maryland area, where she was the Director of the Boyden Gallery and Fine Art Collection of St. Mary’s College of Maryland. She is excited to be in Winchester and ready to explore and meet all of our donors, friends and community members. She invites everyone to stop by and share their aspirations for our future with her as we begin our new chapter.

 

Ryan Hall Marketing & Membership

Ryan brings several years of graphic design knowledge to the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum as well as many other varied talents.  He holds a B.S. in Art with a concentration in Intermedia Design from West Virginia Wesleyan College. In addition to his artistic endeavors, Ryan is very active in his community including being elected to the board of the Old Town Winchester Business Association in 2014 and 2015 and founding the Valley Makers Association. Ryan is a native of Buckhannon West Virginia and began residing in Winchester in 2014.

 

Mark Lawson, General Manager

Mark has held the position of General Manager at the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum since 2000. Functioning as museum host, he greets visitors, monitors the floor activity and safety, and gets to know the children and their families. He also heads up the preschool programs, after school outreach, birthday parties, and many of the summer camps. Mark is a career professional with over 30 years experience on the front lines of early childhood education, youth programming and family service. He was a Child Development Associate trainer, and has held positions in a wide range of settings and with children ranging in ages from two to 18. These include public and private childcare, Head Start programs, inclusive and special needs programs, before and after school programs, recreational programs, and summer camps. When not at the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum, Mark is a practicing artist, musician and writer. He specializes in mural work and has his own digital art business.

 

Pamela Lam, Business Manager

Her direct obligations include annual and capital finance, smooth operation of the day-to-day business, staff and human resource management and the retail aspect. Indirectly, she wears all sorts of hats in a multitude of shapes and sizes, and fills in wherever she is needed. Pam also enjoys being a museum host, greeting visitors, monitoring the floor activity and safety, and loves getting to know the children and their families.   She was born and raised in Winchester and continues to live in her hometown.

 

Paul Limoges, Advancement Officer

Paul  was the former CEO for the Association for Experiential Education (AEE, an international professional membership association that sets the standards in experiential education) based in Boulder, CO. and as the COO for Uplift Internationale, an organization that works exclusively in the Philippines providing surgery for children with cleft lips and pallets. Paul has more than 20 years of experience managing in a myriad of positions in the non-profit sector as the Director of Operations for the Denver Metro Chamber Foundation, program manager at Exploris Children’s Museum, Director for Heifer International and in management positions with Up with People. Paul has travelled extensively and worked throughout 40 countries and served on the board for the National Society for Experiential Education (NSEE) as well as the Bradley County Chamber of Commerce. He has a Bachelors degree in Special Education and a Master’s Degree in Human Relations Psychology from Sherbrooke University, as well as a Bachelors degree in Psychology from the University of Montreal, both located in Quebec. He lives in Winchester, VA with his wife and their three children.

Jennifer Coleman Catalyst for Learning and Educational Outreach

Jennifer Coleman spent 10 years as a classroom teacher before joining the Discovery Museum staff as a museum educator in June 2015. This curly-haired instructor can usually be found eating chocolate and loves teaching school groups, helping visitors climb through the vertical maze, and planning the next big event at the Museum!
